ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏleads first research cruise to study Piney Point’s environmental impact
A team of scientists from the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ College of Marine Science have embarked on the first research cruise in Tampa Bay dedicated to studying the environmental impacts of the recent breach at a retired fertilizer processing plant at Piney Point in Manatee County, Florida. They’re aboard the R/V Weatherbird II, a research vessel that was also used in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response effort led by ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ(ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏNewsroom).

Aboard the R/V Weatherbird II, a team of ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏscientists from the College of Marine Sciences in St. Pete sailed offshore to Tampa Bay on Wednesday morning to study the environmental impacts of the Piney Point reservoir release (ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏOracle).

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ (USF) total expected funds of $44.4 million over the next five years to study whether computerized brain training exercises can reduce the risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and dementias like Alzheimer's disease, in older adults (News-Medical.Net).

$2.5 million grant helping researchers improve health disparities in communities of color
ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ researchers are undertaking a multi-year study designed to improve health outcomes and reduce hospital readmission for people of color managing chronic illnesses (ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏNewsroom).
The ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ is one of 10 colleges and universities nationwide that will receive pro bono consulting to help advance climate action planning and projects on campus (ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏNewsroom).
