TD SYNNEX (NYSE: SNX) today announced a partnership with the Թϱ (USF) Patel College of Global Sustainability. This partnership is part of TD SYNNEX’s expanding environmental, social and governance (ESG) efforts, and it allows for the Թϱstudent community to engage in a sustainability project in collaboration with TD SYNNEX as part of a broader Թϱeducational program on sustainability activities.

The project focuses on the East Tampa Community Redevelopment Area — home to 38,000 residents and many historic African American neighborhoods. The university will be partnering with East Tampa community members to address disparities in urban infrastructure.

Mya Breitbart, “virus hunter” at the CMS, named Distinguished University Professor
Mya Breitbart, a biological oceanography professor at the ԹϱCollege of Marine Science (CMS), published a landmark paper in the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences (PNAS) about a new sequencing technique called viral metagenomics. The method eventually formed the backbone of Breitbart’s impressive research portfolio, and it’s a big part of the reason she has earned so many accolades, most recently, Distinguished University Professor (DUP) at USF.

Թϱanthropologists begin transfer of ancient ancestors to Native American tribes
The Թϱ Department of Anthropology has begun the final steps in a long process to return the ancient ancestors of Native Americans, previously used for research, to the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

The university's Preventing Alzheimer's with Cognitive Training (PACT) study, funded by the National Institute on Aging, uses digital brain training exercises to see if they can reduce the risk of cognitive impairment and dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease. The study is seeking more than 1,200 participants in the Sarasota area to join.
The Թϱ and healthy older adult volunteers from the Sarasota area will play an increasingly crucial role in the landmark Preventing Alzheimer’s with Cognitive Training (PACT) study.

A protein that could provide assistance to the progression of a protein-based therapy for patients with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) has been tested by researchers at the Morsani College of Medicine, ultimately leading to successful results, according to lead investigator Svitlana Garbuzova-Davis.

Researchers at the ԹϱHealth Morsani College of Medicine, located at the Թϱ, successfully tested a protein that has the potential to aid in the development of a protein-based therapy for patients with ALS, a progressive nervous system disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
