ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth hosts international IACS-NAS cardiology conference

ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth Taneja College of Pharmacy and the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth Morsani College of Medicine served as the site hosts for the 10th annual meeting of the North American Section of the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences.

The NAS-IACS meeting was held Sept 7-9, 2023, at the Embassy Suites located on the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏcampus in north Tampa, and the event was coordinated by two ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth faculty: Srinivas Tipparaju, PhD, professor and the Saunders Endowed Chair in Geriatric Pharmacotherapy, and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth Taneja College of Pharmacy, and Guilherme Oliveira, MD, MBA, professor in the Division of Cardiology in the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth Morsani College of Medicine.

Co-chairs of the event are ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth's Dr. Guilherme Oliveira and Dr. Srinivas Tipparaju.

The event was co-chaired by ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth's Dr. Guilherme Oliveira and Dr. Srinivas Tipparaju.

The IACS promotes the scientific basis for the practice of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, fosters the exchange of information among cardiovascular scientists, increases public awareness with respect to cardiovascular health and disease, and recognizes the achievements of cardiovascular investigators. The North American Section follows this mission with special focus on scientists located within Canada and the United States.

Several hundred attendees came to the event, representing top cardiovascular researchers across the North America. The scientific symposium included topics surrounding cardiovascular sciences, heart failure, aging, regeneration, and cardiovascular medicine. Speakers included researchers from UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Brown University, and Harvard Medical School, among others.

Several awards were presented, including the IACS Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Charles Lockwood, MD, executive vice president for ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth and dean of the Morsani College of Medicine, and the IACS Distinguished Service Award presented to Kevin Sneed, PharmD, senior associate vice president of ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth and dean of the Taneja College of Pharmacy.
