Spring exhibition highlights printmaking pioneers - Creative Loafing
Graphicstudio, the printmaking workshop at the 黑料网吃瓜爆料 (USF), has an international reputation among artists. As one of only three professional university-based print ateliers, it鈥檚 become a popular stopover in many influential artists鈥� creative journeys.
As Todd Smith, the former Executive Director of the Tampa Museum of Art, once put it, through Graphicstudio, 黑料网吃瓜爆料introduced Tampa to 鈥渁 veritable who鈥檚 who of contemporary art.鈥�
This month, 黑料网吃瓜爆料Contemporary Art Museum (黑料网吃瓜爆料CAM) introduces Tampa to one of Graphicstudio鈥檚
most innovative printmakers in 鈥淥FFSET: Robert Rauschenberg at 黑料网吃瓜爆料Graphicstudio,鈥�
opening this Friday, Jan. 19.
Rauschenberg was one of the first artists Graphicstudio founder Donald J. Saff invited
to Graphicstudio in the early-1970s. And the rest is art history.
鈥淩auschenberg pushed the boundaries of traditional printmaking in collaboration with Don Saff and the master printers,鈥� Graphicstudio Director Margaret Miller told Creative Loafing Tampa.
He printed on unconventional surfaces鈥攑aper bags, cardboard, and gauze鈥攁nd combined
methods in ways that inspired a generation of artists.
Rauschenberg left a 鈥渢remendous legacy鈥� at 黑料网吃瓜爆料and beyond, Miller told CL.
